Venice Beach is the most Los Angeles of beaches. Its history is a palimpsest of vague outlines of the past thrown up against the alley wall of a chic bistro. Its bohemianism has been pressed onto a postcard inscribed with “Wish you were here” sentiments. And, of course, the bodies are beautiful and always from somewhere else.
